Meet the Team: John Dunbar

Runic has just posted another article in the Meet the Team series, this time on John Dunbar the Zombie Pyrotechnician... yeah, that's my new dream job.

Big Update

So, I was away without internet for the past week, and sure enough tons of information comes out while I'm gone.  Here's a recap:

And that about sums up the past week.  Tons of media, tons of info, and tons of stuff to add to the wiki.

Web Series?

An interesting Twitter came from the Runic team today:

"So yes, the rumor is true. We are making a webseries about a gaming studio. Not really based on us, but filmed here. And it will be at PAX!!"

This is extremely vague, but I can see a lot of potential here.  Maybe a documentary or even a mockumentary?  I just hope they release it to the public after PAX.

Torchlight Site Updates

The TorchlightGame.com site had a few updates in the last few days.

On Friday, they added a news post about the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo.  The just got done ordering the furnishing for their booth there, and Brock Jones modeled a representation of what the booth would look like if it were in Torchlight.  If you're going to be at PAX, hit them up at booth 872.

And today, they added a new part to their Meet the Team series. This article is about Jeff Mianowski, one of the character artists at Runic Games.

Also a reminder if you haven't already, make sure you subscribe to their newsletter.

Torchlight Newsletter

The Torchlight website had some brief downtime earlier today.  It was attributed to maintenance, but when it came back online, we were treated with a new newsletter subscription page.  So head on over and subscribe so you don't miss out on official announcements.

Runic Games Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary

Today, Runic Games is celebrating their 1-year anniversary.  They've put a short news post on their Torchlight site as well as a 3 new screenshots.  This is our first direct look at the inventory and equipment slots.  We've added the shots to our media section as well, so go take a look.

Vanquisher Class Details

Runic Games revealed the third and final class at this year's Comic Con.  Unfortunately for those that weren't able to attend, we had to wait to find out any details about the Vanquisher class.

Due to an exclusive deal with the Girls of Gaming magazine that is distributed at Comic Con, Runic was unable to show us the details of the class, let alone the art that was printed in the magazine.  The best that they could do, was show us an ASCII representation of the art.  Official forum user Sabotender was rather quickly able to come up with a faux colored drawing of what the ASCII depicted.  The results show a gun wielding ranged class.

Finally, with the public release of the Girls of Gaming magazine, we finally get the official backstory to the Vanquisher class courtesy of jamesL:

"The Vanquisher travels to the city of Torchlight in disguise as a fellow treasure and adventure seeker. Secretly, however, she is a member of the elite and deadly guards of the world's capital city, sent to investigate the mysterious and violent disturbances surrounding the boomtown's massive network of Ember mines."

I can't wait until we get ahold of the actual art!

Official Torchlight Site Goes Live

Throughout the day, the Runic Games Twitter kept hinting at the release of the new Torchlight website.  After hours of refreshing, the site is finally live!  Go check it out at www.torchlightgame.com.  There are a few unreleased concept art peices to check out as well as the cool video drop down animation.

Also of note: the latest news post on that site entitled 'Crunchmode!' has the following to say:

"Our lofty goal is to finish the nuts and bolts of content for Torchlight by the end of the week! That way, we’ll have plenty time to polish and test before PAX. It’s going to be a doozy, but we can do it, with the help of our friends pizza and Mountain Dew."

So sounds like the game is progressing quite well and maybe we'll see more on a specific release date soon?
